Children may spread COVID-19 to the elderly, vulnerable patients and medical staff. There is a dearth of data on the epidemiology of COVID-19 in the pediatric surgical population. Rapid antigen detection tests for the diagnosis of COVID-19 are reliable, simple, fast, and inexpensive.\n\nThis is a prospective observational clinical study. The study population will include all consenting pediatric surgical patients, aged 2-17 years. Informed consent will be obtained from each patient and the legal guardian who agree to participate in the study. Nasopharyngeal swab specimens will be collected from anesthetized pediatric patients. COVID-19 rapid antigen testing will be performed according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions.\n\nData collection will include COVID-19 test result, nasal swab complication, patient demographics, surgical history, medical history, regular medications, COVID-19 symptoms, and COVID-19 exposure information. COVID-19 symptoms that will be recorded are cough, wheeze, nasal congestion, breathing difficulty, new loss of taste or smell, fever, chills, rigors, body aches, sore throat, nausea, and fatigue. COVID-19 exposure will be considered as being within 6 feet of a person with diagnosed COVID-19 infection in the previous 14 days.","Consecutive surgical patients, aged 2-17 years.",[20],{"type":21,"name":22,"description":23,"armGroupLabels":13,"otherNames":13},"DIAGNOSTIC_TEST","Rapid antigen test","COVID-19 rapid antigen testing of nasal swab",[25],{"name":26,"affiliation":5,"role":27},"Olumuyiwa Bamgbade","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[29],{"name":30,"role":31,"phone":32,"phoneExt":13,"email":33},"Olumuyiwa Bamgbade, MD,FRCPC","CONTACT","17786286600","olu.bamgbade@gmail.com",[35],{"facility":5,"status":36,"city":37,"state":38,"zip":39,"country":40,"countryCode":41,"cosmosGeoPoint":42,"geoPoint":47,"contacts":48},"RECRUITING","Surrey","British Columbia","V3S 7J1","Canada","CA",{"type":43,"coordinates":44},"Point",[45,46],-122.82509,49.10635,{"lat":46,"lon":45},[49],{"name":50,"role":31,"phone":51,"phoneExt":13,"email":52},"Olu Bamgbade, MD,FRCPC","+17786286600","salem.painclinic@gmail.com",{"type":54,"investigatorFullName":13,"investigatorTitle":13,"investigatorAffiliation":13,"oldNameTitle":13,"oldOrganization":13},"SPONSOR","100508293",false,"NCT05898529","COVID Infection in Pediatric Surgical Patient","Prevalence of Asymptomatic COVID-19 Infection in Pediatric Surgical Patients","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* surgical patients aged 2-17 years\n* informed consent for surgery\n* no COVID-19 diagnosis in previous 6 months\n* no history of nasal bleeding\n* no history of coagulopathy.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* patient refusal of testing\n* difficulty in obtaining consent\n* COVID-19 diagnosis in recent 6 month\n* history of nasal bleeding\n* history of coagulopathy.",true,"ALL","2 Years","17 Years",{"count":66,"type":67},350,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","Children infected with COVID-19 are mostly asymptomatic.
