In the past, people could only be organ donors after being declared brain dead.\n\nThe dead donor rule serves this purpose by ensuring that death determination precedes organ retrieval. In Canada, death determination occurs in one of two ways. In neurologic determination of death (NDD), death is declared upon completion of a standardized neurologic assessment that confirms permanent loss of brain activity. In donation after circulatory determination of death (DCDD), death is declared 5 minutes after circulatory arrest. By confirming permanent loss of brain activity, the current NDD process protects donors from suffering and maintains stakeholder trust. In contrast, the current DCDD process assumes, but does not explicitly confirm, permanent loss of brain activity when death is declared 5 minutes after circulatory arrest. While this assumption is rooted in a strong physiologic rationale, lack of compelling evidence regarding cessation of brain activity in humans contributes to ongoing mistrust of the DCDD process among healthcare and public stakeholders.","The study will include all patients admitted to a participating ICU who fulfil all the inclusion criteria and for whom none of the exclusion criteria exist.",[28],{"type":29,"name":30,"description":31,"armGroupLabels":21,"otherNames":32},"DIAGNOSTIC_TEST","electroencephalography (EEG)","1. brain cortical activity using full scalp\n2. cerebral blood flow velocity\n3. during the dying process following planned withdrawal of life sustaining measures (WLSM)",[33,34],"transcranial Doppler (TCD)","related (EP), somatosensory (SSEP)",[36],{"name":37,"affiliation":38,"role":39},"Teneille Gofton, MD MSc FRCPC","London Health Sciences Centre","PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",[41,46],{"name":42,"role":43,"phone":44,"phoneExt":21,"email":45},"Teneille Gofton","CONTACT","519-663-2911","teneille.gofton@lhsc.on.ca",{"name":47,"role":43,"phone":48,"phoneExt":49,"email":50},"Marat Slessarev","519-685-8500","56560","marat.slessarev@lhsc.on.ca",[52,72,85,97,113],{"facility":53,"status":54,"city":55,"state":56,"zip":57,"country":58,"countryCode":59,"cosmosGeoPoint":60,"geoPoint":65,"contacts":66},"University of Calgary Foothills Campus","RECRUITING","Calgary","Alberta","T2N1N4","Canada","CA",{"type":61,"coordinates":62},"Point",[63,64],-114.08529,51.05011,{"lat":64,"lon":63},[67,69],{"name":68,"role":43,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Andreas Kramer",{"name":70,"role":71,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Julie Kromm","SUB_INVESTIGATOR",{"facility":73,"status":54,"city":74,"state":75,"zip":76,"country":58,"countryCode":59,"cosmosGeoPoint":77,"geoPoint":81,"contacts":82},"Kingston Health Sciences Centre","Kingston","Ontario","K7L2V7",{"type":61,"coordinates":78},[79,80],-76.48098,44.22976,{"lat":80,"lon":79},[83],{"name":84,"role":43,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Gord Boyd",{"facility":38,"status":54,"city":86,"state":75,"zip":87,"country":58,"countryCode":59,"cosmosGeoPoint":88,"geoPoint":92,"contacts":93},"London","N6A 5A5",{"type":61,"coordinates":89},[90,91],-81.23304,42.98339,{"lat":91,"lon":90},[94,96],{"name":42,"role":43,"phone":48,"phoneExt":95,"email":45},"32911",{"name":47,"role":43,"phone":48,"phoneExt":49,"email":50},{"facility":98,"status":54,"city":99,"state":75,"zip":100,"country":58,"countryCode":59,"cosmosGeoPoint":101,"geoPoint":105,"contacts":106},"Ottawa Hospital","Ottawa","K1H8L6",{"type":61,"coordinates":102},[103,104],-75.69812,45.41117,{"lat":104,"lon":103},[107,109,111],{"name":108,"role":43,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Shane English",{"name":110,"role":71,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Sonny Dhanani",{"name":112,"role":71,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Tadeau Fantaneanu",{"facility":114,"status":54,"city":115,"state":116,"zip":117,"country":58,"countryCode":59,"cosmosGeoPoint":118,"geoPoint":122,"contacts":123},"Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal,","Montreal","Quebec","H2X3E4",{"type":61,"coordinates":119},[120,121],-73.58781,45.50884,{"lat":121,"lon":120},[124],{"name":125,"role":43,"phone":21,"phoneExt":21,"email":21},"Michaël Chassé",{"type":127,"investigatorFullName":21,"investigatorTitle":21,"investigatorAffiliation":21,"oldNameTitle":21,"oldOrganization":21},"SPONSOR","100462795",false,"NCT05306327","Neurologic Physiology After Removal of Therapy (NeuPaRT)","Neurologic Physiology After Removal of Therapy (NeuPaRT): Pilot Multicentre Feasibility Study","NeuPaRT","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n1.
