The amount of these shear stresses varies with the distribution of velocity across the vessel lumen and with local vessel geometry.\n\nDiseases affecting the thoracic aorta can be categorized into acute and chronic. Chronic aortic pathologies are chronic aortic dissections and aortic aneurysms.\n\nToday, there are computational tools available to permit the calculation of stresses of the aortic wall.\n\nFor the above-mentioned reasons, this study becomes of extreme interest as it may be capable of further assessing the mechanical properties of the dilated aortic tissue, its' strength to rupture and stiffness, in order to provide an overview of the fragility of ascending aortic aneurysms. This parameter, associated to the diameter of the pathological aorta, may provide an additional tool regarding the clinical history of patients and insight concerning surgical indication.\n\nMatter of factly, knowing the risk of rupture based on diameter may have strong implications on the preoperative evaluation of patients and the decision-making process.","Patients undergoing cardiac surgery for ascending or aortic root aneurysms.",[29],{"facility":30,"status":31,"city":32,"state":33,"zip":34,"country":35,"countryCode":36,"cosmosGeoPoint":37,"geoPoint":42,"contacts":43},"IRCCS Policlinico San Donato","RECRUITING","San Donato Milanese","MI","20097","Italy","IT",{"type":38,"coordinates":39},"Point",[40,41],9.26838,45.41047,{"lat":41,"lon":40},[44,49],{"name":45,"role":46,"phone":47,"phoneExt":23,"email":48},"Alessandra Sala, MD","CONTACT","+39 0252774961","alessandra.sala@grupposandonato.it",{"name":45,"role":50,"phone":23,"phoneExt":23,"email":23},"PRINCIPAL_INVESTIGATOR",{"type":50,"investigatorFullName":52,"investigatorTitle":53,"investigatorAffiliation":5,"oldNameTitle":23,"oldOrganization":23},"Alessandra Sala","Cardiac Surgeon",[55],{"name":56,"class":6},"University of Pavia","100627793",false,"NCT07453251","Strength Tracking From Wall Tichness Over Aortic Biomechanics (STORM)","Strength Tracking From Wall Tichness Over Aortic Biomechanics","STORM","Inclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients undergoing cardiac surgery for either aortic root and\u002For ascending aortic aneurysms; • Patients that have received, understood and signed the written informed consent for this study.\n\nExclusion Criteria:\n\n* Patients that have already undergone previous cardiac surgery; • Patients that present with acute aortic pathologies, such as acute aortic dissection or intramural hematoma.","ALL","18 Years",{"count":67,"type":68},40,"ESTIMATED","OBSERVATIONAL","The aim of the study is to analyse the resected portion of aneurysmatic ascending aorta in order to assess its strength to rupture, standardise the various measurements performed within the lab and try to correlate these qualitative results with quantitative results (regarding aortic diameter, valve morphology and aortic wall thickness).",[72,73],"Aneurysm Aortic","Aneurysm Aortic Root",[75,76,77,78,79,80],"aortic aneurysm","bicuspid aortic valve","tricuspid aortic valve","tensile testing","aortic strength","aortic rupture","2026-03-09",{"date":83,"type":84},"2026-03-11","ACTUAL",{"date":86,"type":84},"2025-10-25",{"date":88,"type":68},"2026-12",{"name":5,"class":6},1]
