The Effect of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in Improving Emotion Health

The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate how transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) affects emotion functions in young adults aged 18-35 from the local community, including both male and female participants. The main question\[s\] it aims to answer are: * Does tDCS improve emotional functions, such as mood regulation and motivation, in individuals with subthreshold depression (StD)? * Can tDCS enhance emotional regulation compared to a sham stimulation (placebo)? Researchers will compare participants receiving tDCS on either the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (lDLPFC) or right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (rVLPFC) with those receiving sham stimulation to see if tDCS has a stronger effect on emotional functions. Participants will: * Complete online and in-person screening to assess depressive symptoms using the Chinese version of the Beck Depression Inventory II (C-BDI-II) and be selected based on their depressive symptoms (C-BDI-II score ≥ 13). * Be randomly assigned to one of three groups: lDLPFC tDCS, rVLPFC tDCS, or Sham control group (1:1:1 ratio). * Receive 10 sessions of tDCS or Sham tDCS over 2 weeks, with each session lasting 20 minutes. * Complete assessments at baseline, post-intervention, 1-month follow-up, and 3-month follow-up, with each assessment lasting 2-2.5 hours. This includes questionnaires and perform emotional and cognitive tasks.

A Pilot Study to Examine the Efficacy of Internet-Delivered Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (i-STAIR) for Individuals With Adverse Childhood Experiences and Subsyndromal Depression

The present study aims to pilot internet-delivered Skills Training in Affective and Interpersonal Regulation (i-STAIR) as a transdiagnostic emotion dysregulation intervention to prevent progression to depression in individuals with adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and subsyndromal depression. The aims of the study are: (i) to examine the effectiveness of i-STAIR on emotion dysregulation, interpersonal skills, depressive and PTSD symptoms at post-intervention i.e. on completion of the intervention (8 weeks); (ii) to examine if gains were maintained at 3 month post- intervention follow-up.

A Virtual Reality-Based Horticultural Planting Program for Elderly With Subthreshold Depression

Subthreshold depression represents a state of psychological sub-health between normal individuals and clinical depression. It constitutes a high-risk stage for developing clinical depression and a critical phase for alleviating depressive symptoms. However, current research predominantly focuses on treating depression in the elderly, with insufficient attention to interventions for high-risk populations or limited to cross-sectional investigations of subthreshold depression risk factors. Therefore, prioritizing subthreshold depression in the elderly and implementing early interventions is essential. A 2024 article in The Lancet suggests that subthreshold depression treatment should prioritize psychotherapy and lifestyle adjustments over medication. Horticultural therapy, an interdisciplinary approach integrating horticulture, medicine, and psychology, demonstrates unique advantages over traditional medical treatments. In practical application, however, limited resources may hinder adequate support for horticultural activities, compromising activity quality, reducing therapeutic efficacy, and restricting the widespread adoption of horticultural therapy. Integrating VR technology with horticultural therapy can provide patients with more comprehensive, personalized, and effective mental health treatment plans, empowering them toward healthier, more positive lives. Therefore, the research team designed a VR horticultural intervention system for elderly individuals with subthreshold depression based on the Social Participation Competence Framework.
